Authentic Leadership in a Context of Crisis
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM | Virtual

Speaker: Jim Robinson, Executive Director, The George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership

We each have an inner sense that tells us when we are experiencing authenticity, integrity, and congruency. However, that inner knowing can become clouded and distorted by fear. How can leaders provide assurance and confidence to move forward and through a crisis without false promises or blaming and shaming others to provide the temporary security others may be seeking? Holding the vision and promise of our highest truths in the face of our deepest fears may point a way through.

Cultivating Motivation and Engagement
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM | Virtual

Speaker: Angela Kochuba, Executive Leadership and Management Consultant, Management Concepts

Leaders and supervisors are often tasked with ensuring that their employees are motivated and engaged. This can be a difficult endeavor for even the most experienced leader. Individuals are driven to work by a variety of internal and external factors that can change over time. For this reason, leaders must openly communicate with the members of their team to find out more about their individual needs. It also requires building a workplace environment that allows individuals to thrive based on their own motivations. In this module, we examine the behaviors and strategies that most reliably result in motivated and engaged employees.

During this symposium, participants will:

  • Identify best practices for elevating employee motivation and engagement
  • Discover how to inspire motivation
  • Foster employee engagement

Loving and Laughing Your Way to Leadership
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM | Virtual

Speakers:
Dr. Zina Sutch, Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Civil Rights, U.S. Small Business Administration
Professor Patrick Malone, Director, Key Executive Leadership Programs, American University

What’s missing with popular leadership models and frameworks? We’re facing a landscape of federal agencies that are constantly changing – artificial intelligence, five generations in the workplace, and matrixed organizations, to name a few. Leadership models will change. New variables, fancy graphics, and complex frameworks will be introduced every year. It’s guaranteed. But one thing will never change – the need for love and our desire to smile. The heart will never change, nor will the need for connection and the feeling of joy. Leadership is about love. A little laughter helps too!

Dr. Zina Sutch, Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Civil Rights, U.S. Small Business Administration Professor Patrick Malone, Director, Key Executive Leadership Programs, American University

TOC Annual Institute 2019

Norfolk, VA | April 28-May 1, 2019

Management Concepts was proud to sponsor, exhibit, and present sessions at the 80th TOC Annual Institute in Norfolk, VA.

Our booth featured a lively basketball contest because Management Concepts is on your team! Following the close of the expo, we donated the game to the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia.

Our two featured sessions exemplified the broad range of services that Management Concepts has to offer.

At our pre-conference workshop, expert Hannah Toney offered personal, professional development insights while presenting “Cultivating Motivation and Engagement,” a module from our Professional Government Supervisor Program. During “Gaming in Government: Using Gamification and Serious Games in Federal Training,” instructional designer Taylor Woodyard, offered insights into this growing innovation while engaging with course participants.
